CAUGHT DOING SOMETHING GOOD Neighbor Helping Neighbor Following Hurricane Dorian, Peggy and Bruce Yaeck discovered a large limb blocking their driveway. Having had a recent hip replacement, Bruce quickly got on the phone to line up somebody to remove the limb, but before he could make those arrangements, Peggy noticed a truck drive by and then back up. Steve Felch, who was aware of Bruces surgery, emerged with a chainsaw and fired it up. He quickly dispensed with the limb and carted all the larger pieces away. Peggy snapped this picture of Steves kind act and calls him their guardian angel. Steve and the Community Commission members have been doing extra duty to help process ^ tree removal permits for those who need to remove dead pine trees because of beetle infestation, yet he was out immediately after the curfew was lifted to help a neighbor. Thanks to Steve for his community spirit and willingness to go the extra mile. 4.'' saK' iHJ Reflective Address Signs Available W. ■■J&Z ■? Minutes matter in an emergency. If you see them and wave, they may stop and give you a treat. Sorry adults, this is for children only. Scam of the Month: Contractor Scams Our officers are still investigating felony cases involving residents who have been scammed by a contractor as a result of Hurricane Florence. In July, two of our officers went to Las Vegas to extradite a fugitive who had over 20 outstanding felony warrants for scamming hurricane victims. If you have a bad feeling about a contractor, trust your gut. Some of our victims will take years to financially recover from the damage that was done by con men posing as contractors. Don’t trust contractors who go door-to-door, ask you to refer them to other customers, ask for payment up front, and do everything with a handshake instead of giving you a quote in writing. Research their company online and ask for a list of references from previous customers. You should not do business with a contractor who cant provide a reference list or written quote/ invoice.
