Joan Lamson, resident and former mayor of Pine
Knoll Shores, died on May 10. She served as mayor in
Pine Knoll Shores for three terms, from 2003 to 2009,
and remained active in public service in Pine Knoll
Shores and Carteret County after her tenure as mayor.
Mrs. Lamsons community work included serving
as president of the Bogue Banks Country Club (now
the Crystal Coast Country Club), president of the
BjA ; / Knoll Shores Womens Club, and founder and
chair of the Pine Knoll Shores Aging-in-Place/Age-
Friendly Community Committee. She was respon-
HB BIHHHi sible for establishing the local chapter of SCORE
Former Mayor Joan Lamson (Service Corps of Retired Executives), whose mission
is assisting small businesses in Carteret County, and she was also a key player in
the establishment of the Carteret County League of Women Voters. She served on
the Carteret Health Care Board of Directors, which became a stepping-stone for
her to later become co-chair of the Carteret Health Care Foundations successful
campaign to raise money to build the new Cancer Center, which opened in 2015.
As a result of Joans efforts, the Carteret Health Care Foundation renamed their
Cancer Indigent Fund the Joan Lamson Benevolent Fund.
Joan Lamson made a difference in her community and became a fast friend to
those who knew her. A more fitting and complete tribute to her and a discussion of
her contributions to Pine Knoll Shores will appear in the July issue of The Shoreline.
