Thank you all for your commitment and dedication to making our 14th year of
Kayak for the Warriors (K4TW) a success.
The first event, on Friday, May 21, was the 2nd Annual K4TW Golf Tourna
ment held at the Crystal Coast Country Club. It was a gorgeous morning for the
96 golfers to hit the links. There were lots of fun holes, including Beat the Pro and
Luck of the Draw, and our infamous AR-15 that shoots golf balls 320 feet. Try to
do that on a drive. Winners were:
First Place
Second Place
Clint Johnson
Tim Bowen
Russ Landen
Robert Garris
Jim Pridgen
Jeff Garris
Kenny Tetterton

Golfers were treated to a barbecue lunch, a golf auction and our Wheelbarrow
of Booze raffle. The wheelbarrow held over 20 bottles of spirits and was won by
John Burnett. A big thank you goes to Kathy Blowers and her team for spearhead
ing this event.
The second event, the signature Kayak/Paddleboard Race, was held on Satur

Proper use of town dump sites
I hope everyone is having a joyous and safe summer. This month, I would
like to remind everybody of proper waste disposal in Pine Knoll Shores and the
greater Carteret County area.
The town hall waste site is available for all residents and visitors. This is a
valuable resource which we need to utilize with great care. The town hall waste
site is available for you to dispose of only household trash, recyclables and
cardboard. Large signage on the dumpsters indicates which items can be placed
where. Bulk items, such as furniture, electronics, and construction debris will
not be accepted at the town hall waste site. It is difficult for the Public Services
staff to deal with these items and takes away their ability to handle other
important projects. The town has security cameras on the waste site and will
issue fines to people who illegally dump.
Also available to residents is the yard waste collection center at Lot C next
to the public safety building. Small yard waste trimmings can be placed in the
designated areas. Please do not place logs or other large debris. You should
also remove any plastic bags used for holding yard waste. The town provides
biodegradable yard waste bags at town hall for $2.25 for a bundle of five bags.
If you need to dump items which cannot be collected by town collection
centers, there are other options for you in the county. Hazardous waste, bulk
items and electronics can be dumped at the county waste site on Hibbs Road in
Newport. Also check with local nonprofit organizations, such as the Salvation
Army, to see if they are accepting clothing, furniture or electronics.
Your cooperation in this is appreciated.
