Stay tuned for information about the April meeting, hopefully a bus tour of Beaufort, followed by lunch. PINE KNOLL SHORES GARDEN CLUB By Deb Frisby Spring is on its way On February 9, Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club members met at the Crystal Coast Civic Center to hear an educational presentation sponsored by the Cart eret County Master Gardeners that featured Onslow County Commercial Hor ticulture Agent Lisa Rayburn from the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. Ms. Rayburn recommended browsing the extension site, clemson.edu/ extension/hgic, which is the home of informative publications about plants that will survive or thrive in our coastal area. It is a useful resource for all gardeners. Thank you, Kathy, for years of service to the club. You will be missed. March is a busy, blustery month. The first day of spring, the Vernal Equinox, is on March 20 this year, and we hope pre-spring weather cooperates so that the club’s March 9 meeting can be a workday followed by lunch and a business session. March 18 is Arbor Day, and club members will plant three azaleas near the pond in front of town hall and a gardenia bush in the Hereth Garden in memory of Joan Lamson, Irene Beattie and Lois Jean O’Keefe, all former Garden Club members who passed away in 2021. Family members are invited to attend a remembrance ceremony outside town hall. Joan Lamson, a former Pine KnoU Shores mayor, was a club member from 1996 to 1999; Irene Beattie was in the club from 1998 to 2006; and Lois Jean O’Keefe was a member from 1980 to 2021.
