Natural Side of Fort Macon. April 21, 10 a.m. Meet in the Visitor Center lobby for a leisurely hike exploring the natural side of Fort Macon. Hike will cover both trail and beach. Free International Dark Sky Week. On April 22-23, Island Express Ferry Service will provide two-hour starlight cruises from Cape Lookout Visitors Center at 1800 Island Road in Harkers Island. Cruises will depart at 7:30 p.m., and partici pants will experience the exceptional quality of the night sky in the park and the nighttime treasure of Cape Lookout Lighthouse. At the lighthouse, NASA Solar System Ambassador Brandon Porter will provide a laser-pointed tour from the beach, describing the celestial objects of the night sky. The cruise will depart the lighthouse at 9 p.m., arriving at Harkers Island at 9:30. Cruises are by reservation only.
