Crystal Coast Country Club ...where friends connect By Jim Hale A big congratulations goes out to the Crystal Coast Country Club (CCCC) jimior golf team who won the season play with the year-end match at the club on July 25. The other four teams playing in the league were The First Tee, Sound of Freedom, The Emerald and Morehead City Parks and Recreation. There were five matches for the season. At the last match, the club’s course was full of the 46 junior golfers and many of their parents and friends following the play. The Crys tal Coast team won the season with 72 poirits, while the second-place team had 63 points. The team was invited to Wilson to play in the regionals on August 9, where they placed second. The pickleball men’s and women’s doubles club championship was played the last weekend in July. The men’s runner up team was John Tilyard and John Daily. The women’s runner up team was Mary Ann Tormey and Marianna Goldstein. The men club champions were the team of Chris Harrell and BiU White, and the women champions were the duo of Caroline Carr and Gina Minton. Assistant Golf Pro and CCCC PGA Associate Randy Taylor left the club in August. Randy had done a superb job with the club’s golf programs, especially the junior golf and the Ladies Golf Association (LGA). Randy did great work running the golf operation, from the shop merchandise to the excellent lessons provided to the members. Randy is pursuing a career outside of the golfing industry and he will be missed at the club. With Randy’s departure comes a new opportunity, and the club is excited to announce the hiring of Kyle Hosch, PGA as the Crystal Coast Country Club’s head golf professional. Kyle was born and raised in Highland, California. He started as a hopeful professional golfer while working in the golf shop to utilize the golf course and driving range to fine tune his skills as a golfer. It was there where his director of golf approached Kyle about joining the PGA as a golf professional instead of trying to become a professional golfer. Kyle took to the idea with the mindset of teaching the game of golf to players of all abilities. He has since worked as an assistant golf professional at both private clubs and resorts. Kyle spent time as a club accountant where he gained valuable knowledge about the financial workings of a private club. His accounting experience, golf and Forbes training led him to his first director of golf position at a country club in Roanoke, Virginia. From there Kyle moved to Pennsylvania to be the director of golf at a semi-private facility. Now, the Crystal Coast Country Club is proud to have Kyle as our head golf professional. August saw several special events at the club. On Saturday, August 13, there was a Caribbean Night with a special Caribbean menu and drinks. Entertainment was a steel drum performance by Mike Rooney. The Author’s Lunch on August 18 featured an eastern North Carolina author, Lisa C. Allen, who wrote The Key in the Willow Tree. The presentation included a shrimp salad croissant and fruit lunch. Chef Scott had another fantastic Pasta Night. The offerings included two salads, four different pastas, and a selection of five sauces and four toppings from which to choose. Of course, there was tiramisu for dessert. Participation in mah jongg and duplicate bridge on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, respectively, continues to grow. Water aerobics has been big every week, and, as always, the club continues the special burger nights, club nights and LGA luncheons for dining. It has been a great summer at the Crystal Coast Country Club, and the fall season is already packed with many planned activities. See you at the club. Correction: The time given for Tuesday mah jongg at the club was incorrect in the August Shoreline. Mah jongg play on Tuesdays begins at 2 p.m. for all skill levels.
