November 2022 PKS Fishing Tournament By Mary Cox The 2022 Pine Knoll Shores Fishing Tournament was held on October 8, a beautiful day with a northeast wind of about 12-15 knots. Despite some folks deciding the conditions weren’t ideal, our young anglers proved it was a great day for fishing. We were fortunate to have the Pine Knoll Shores Fire Department hold a separate contest that gave its winners the opportunity to fish in the tournament with the firemen. Thanks to Jesse Chaplain, Greg Smith and Tanner Tharrington. Kids Tournament anglers • Bragging rights for biggest fish go to Bradley Waugh and Noah Freeze, who brought in the winning red drum at a whopping 5 pounds, 3 ounces. • Michael Currie caught the winning fish in two categories with a 3-pound, 3-ounce bluefish and a 1-pound, 3-ounce grey trout. • The winning croaker was caught by Jameson Williams, coming in at 13 ounces. • A combination effort by anglers Mark Lattia and Jameson Williams landed the winning pinfish at 6 ounces. • Charlotte Race brought in a 7-ounce bluefish, Jordan Williams caught a 5-ounce croaker and a 4-ounce pinfish, and Jared Williams landed a 5-ounce croaker and a 4-ounce pinfish. Please see the Town Crier pages for photos of the anglers and their catches. Although no adults placed in any category this year, we still have to recognize Peter Flynn for catching a 5-pound, 15-ounce False Albacore. A big thank you goes to our volunteers Karen Murphy, Jean McDanal, Shelia Bupp and Lee Cox. Thanks also to Mayor John • Brodman for coming out and showing your support as well. Congratulations to all of our anglers. Thank you for your enthusiastic participation. It truly was a great day of fishing fun, and we hope that next year’s turnout is even better.
