Keeping Up With the Clerk
By Charlie Rocci, Pine Knoll Shores Town Clerk
2023 Yard Waste/Recycling calendar available
A new year means a new opportunity to spruce up your yard with new designs,
new plantings and a new opportunity to clean out the old brush that is preventing
you from having the yard you want. The Pine Knoll Shores Public Services
Department is happy to assist you with yard waste pickup on the second and
last Tuesday of every month. The public services staff tries their best to provide
everyone with timely and effective service, but sometimes poor yard waste
placement can slow down the process and prevent the crew from making all of
the collections on the same day. Below is a list of recommendations for placing
yard waste to make pickup go smoother.
• Small yard trimmings and branches should be placed in a garbage can to
prevent waste from blowing onto the road.
• Yard waste should be placed on the public right of way in front of your
property, away from your mailbox and driveway.
• Plastic should not be included in yard waste.
• Yard waste should be place in one large pile rather than several smaller piles.
• Logs should be no more than four feet in length.
• Tarps are acceptable for laying out yard waste only if the waste is not too
heavy for the crew to pick up. If it was difficult for you to get it out there, it
will probably be difficult for them to load it into the trailer.
• Whenever possible, please consider bringing yard waste down to the Lot C
convenience site, which is east of the public safety building parking lot. This
will make it easier for Public Services to collect every pile in town.
A copy of the 2023 trash collection calendar is available in this issue of
The Shoreline. You can also find digital copies at townofpks.com by clicking the
link beneath the calendar on the home page. In addition, printed copies are
available at town hall.
Trash and recycling should always be placed on the right of way in front of
your house the night before to prevent missed pickups.
The next bulk item pickup will be sometime in April, just in time for spring
cleaning.
