Your donation to Kayak for the Warriors (K4TW) can impact over 4,000 war riors served by Hope For The Warriors; 80 percent of the recipients are service members or veterans, 14 percent are military spouses or caregivers, and 6 percent are military family members. North Carolina is consistently among the top three states for new service requests received by Hope For The Warriors. Of those, more than 50 percent are from Onslow and Cumberland counties, and 36 percent are Fayetteville and Jack sonville residents. Since 2014, Hope For The Warriors has provided more than 6,300 direct pro gram services to North Carolina warriors and their families. In short, your dona tion helps warriors who are our next-door neighbors. Hope For The Warriors is a 501(c)3 with a four-star rating from Charity Navigator for the past 12 years. That is the highest rating possible, and it puts Hope For The Warriors in the top 3 percent of all charities. Iheir donations break down as follows: 90.1 percent goes directly to programs, 5.4 percent goes to management, and 4.5 percent supports fundraising. Our efforts here in Pine Knoll Shores over the past 15 years have resulted in over $700,000 being raised for Hope For The Warriors. What started 16 years ago with six kayakers raising $600 has certainly blossomed into a major peer-to-peer fundraising effort. How to donate. If you weren’t able to join us this year for any of the events, we encourage you to think about donating. You can simply go to k4tw.org and click on Donate. You may also send a check to town hall addressed to Kayak for the Warriors, 100 Municipal Court, Pine Knoll Shores, NC 28512. We appreciate your generosity. There are two upcoming K4TW events in June: Tipsy Turtle. On Thursday June 8, Tipsy Turtle, on the causeway, is sponsoring a kick-off party from 4 to 8 p.m. for our golf tournament on June 9. There will be free food, a DJ, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes—so come on out and have fun. Warrior Golf Tournament. A four-person scramble will take place on Friday, June 9, at the Crystal Coast Country Club. We had a great response early on, and registration has been closed. We thank all of our auction donors, restaurants and hotels, and everyone who made our first two events a success. Welcome, Town Clerk Missy Shine By Charlie Rocci The town is delighted to introduce Missy Shine as the newest member of the town hall staff, taking over town clerk responsibilities from Charlie Rocci as he moves into a full-time planning position with the town. A Beaufort native and graduate of East Carteret High School, Missy is well familiar with Carteret County and has always held her roots in eastern North Carolina. Missy received her Bachelor of Science in Commu nications from East Carolina University and will begin her Masters of Business Administration at UNC-Pem broke in January 2024. Missys husband Jamey works as a guardianship social worker with the Carteret County Department of Social Services, and her daughter Kendall attends A Sea of Learning private school and is active in an after-school dance program. Missy is joining Pine Knoll Shores after transitioning from her role as the deputy clerk from the Carteret County Court Estates Division. When asked why she was interested in working in Pine Knoll Shores, Missy said, “I knew I wanted to go back to school for my MBA, and I thought this would be a good transition on the job while getting my degree.” When asked what she (Continued on page 8) In case you missed it...
