Holly Thompson has recently joined town hall as
Tax Collector in Pine Knoll Shores. She comes to the
town after 16 years working in the health care industry.
Public finance is a new field for Holly, but she is taking
opportunities to grow in the role through classes at
Central Piedmont Community College and the UNC
School of Government.
Holly is originally from Marian, North Carolina,
but has spent most of her life in Carteret County. She
has a son who currently works in the Havelock Fire
and EMS Department, is married to Pine Knoll Shores
Police Chief Ryan Thompson, and shares a home with
Ryan, two dogs and seven chickens.
To learn a little bit more about Holly, see her
answers to interview questions below:
Q: What is your ideal way to spend a summer
Saturday?
A: Lying by the pool and reading a good book.
Q: What is your favorite book?
A: I always recommend Low Pressure by Sandra
Browne to my friends.
Q: What is a fun activity to do in Carteret County
that some might not be aware of?
A: We like to geocache, which is a fun way to
explore areas that you may not have otherwise visited.
Q: If you were stuck on a desert island, what are
three things you would like to have with you?
The 2023 Kayak for the Warriors (K4TW) events were very successful, and we
thank all who participated, volunteered and contributed to this important town
event.
The reception and auctions were held on Thursday, June 1, at Crystal Coast
Country Club. The place was high energy, with Bob Laverty and his band play
ing for us. Attendees enjoyed appetizers and time spent catching up with friends.
Our silent auction was once again online and ended at the reception. There were
a number of unique items in the live auction, the highlight being Cindy Moellers
quilt, which was an exquisite piece of workmanship. Thank you all for your com
mitment and generosity in making our 16th year a success. The auctions resulted
in record-breaking revenue.
Our second event was the signature Kayak/Paddleboard Race, held on Saturday,
June 3, and, despite a little wind, it was a beautiful day for a paddle. As kayakers
and paddleboarders registered, Garner Park was a beehive of activity early in the
morning.
A group of local young men volunteered to jockey kayaks and paddleboards
from cars to the water—and we were pleased that the placement of the living
shoreline did not impede paddlers’ entry into the water. As on-site registration
was taking place, raffle tickets, t-shirts and lunch tickets were sold. Pine Knoll
Shores Realty set up the lunch, which included delicious barbecue from Rolands
in Beaufort. Hope For The Warriors had a table, as did the Navy Federal Credit
Union, American Legion Post 46 Morehead City and the Veterans Coalition of the
Crystal Coast.
Assistant Town Manager Julie Anderson began the ceremonies, calling for the
presentation of colors by the Color Guard from U.S Coast Guard Station Fort

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
A: I married my husband after knowing him for 13 days. (They celebrated their
15-year wedding anniversary in June.)
