• SHORE LINE Published by The Town of Pine Knoll Shores In The Interests Of Its Citizens Post Office Box 757, Atlantic Beach, N. C. 28512 Volume One - Number Eight April, 19^0 George Eastland, Editor Lenora Robeson, Assoc. Ed. MAYOR I-IALLER Mayor H. K. Haller, v/ho has served as the chief executive of Pine Knoll Shores for more thaii four years, has resigned his position, and also RESIGNS as a member of the Board of Commissioners, effective April 15• In his letter of resignation, read by Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne Cleveland at the regular meeting of the Board, Mr. Haller said "I doubt that the people of the Town fully realize the effort, the time, the thought and, indeed, the cost involved in serving as a Commissioner or as yotir Mayor. For me," he went on, "it has meant regular hours at the Town Hall five days a week, curtailing vacations so as to limit my absences from the job, frequent meetings on week-ends and at night, innumerable calls at home relating to a broad spectrum of problems, many out-of- town trips and, above all, the assumption of joint responsibility with my colleagues for the daily functioning of the Town and for the planm.ng of its future. "For this full time service the Mayor receives no compensation; yet he most certainly does receive a3.1 of the criticism in which anyone wishes to indulge. Incidentally," he asserted, "the most vocal critics are usually persons who have never done anything at all for the Tom." 14r. Haller said he hoped these observations may help bring to the citizens of Pine Knoll Shores a realization of the sacrifices that the Commissioners are called upon to make. "An occasional word of appreciation will go far to reward them," he concluded. COMMISSIOI^R TO Under the charter of Pine Knoll Shores, in the event of a vacancy in the office of the Mayor, the commissioners of the BE APPOINTED Board shall choose from their om number his successor for the unexpired term.
