~ 3 ~ "iS.T.IONS OF raE At the May 21st meeting of the Board of Commissioners it was decided to continue to collect a $500. cash security deposit from builders of houses in Pine Knoll Shores. This will be returned to the builders when construction is completed and providing lot and street maintenance codes have been met. The Builders Association had appealed the security deposit and proposed instead that a surety bond be recognized as the builders collateral. The Commissioners did agree to a maximum of $1,000. from the builder of multiple homes. At the §ame time, the Commissioners voted to give the Community Appearance Commission authority to require the clean-up of unkempt properties in the town. It was pointed out that some inhabited homesites have become eyesores and should be cleaned up for a better appearance of the town. Commissioner Ratliffe also reported that curbing around the median at Oakleaf Drive and Salter Path would be completed by the town. The Commissioners agreed to sponsor membership in the North Carolina Fireman’s Relief and Benefit Fund, which will grant certain benefits to PKS firemen at no cost to the town. Also at the meeting representatives of the Bogue Banks Country Club Requested an amendment to the sign ordinance which would permit the erection of a directional sign to the Club at Oakleaf Dr. and Salter Path Road. The lack of the sign at this location, they said, had increased the traffic hazards when visitors have difficulty in locating the turn-off. Such a sign was approved at a subsequent meeting. jr.l^pyALLS The Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club held its annual luncheon and installation of officers at Clawson's Emporium at Beaufort on Wednes day, June 4* Following the luncheon President Becky Moore conducted the installation and presented each new officers with an herb plant, comparing the favored qualities of each herb to the new officers. Those installed included Helen Granger, second vice president; Mildred.Smith, recording secretary, and Nancy Peterson as corresponding secretary. Continuing their second year as officers of the club are Becky Moore, president; Martha Hare, vice president, and Mary K. Smith, Treasurer. President. Becky Moore prepared sachets of herb seed as place favors for each person.
