-3- It was further announced at ohe meeting that Curt Johnson has accepted the post of Chairman of the Planning Board with George Zeller and J, B. Greata being appointed as new members for full two year terms. Other members of the Planning Board are Bob Armstrong, Edward Spader, Fred Korff, Bill Macdonald and George Hillard, ^ Commissioner Ratliffe reported that the State Department of Transportation will erect ”No Parking" signs along Salter Path Road within the town limits. The new road is now officially designated as North Carolina State Highway 5^. At the same time the department will install "Pedestrian Crossing" signs at Mimosa Boulevard and the highway and at Yaupon Road and Pinewood Drive and the highway. These are heavily used crossings by pedestrians in the town. Finally, the Board approved a resolution proposed by Com missioner Aubrey Johnson officially designating the Fire and Rescue Departments to be operated under the control of the Board of Commissioners, which was the original intent when they were established. The designation includes the equipment and the station ^d precludes the departments and their members from soliciting funds or engaging in fund-raising projects approved Co^L-^^ GARDEN CLUB HEARS Members of the Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club, at their first general meeting of the new "HOUSEPLANT CARE" year, heard an interesting discussion on "Houseplant Care," by J, C, Teachey, Regional Extension Area Marketing Agent for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, He described procedures for preparing house plants for a Winter indoors and told how to care for these plants during that season. He gave the group suggestions for repotting plants and how to regulate conditions that would result in Dec ember blooms on some favorite Christmas plants. During the business session Lola Council was introduced as a new member and Libby Schlimper as a guest, Becky Moore, presi dent of the club, congratulated Bizzell Dixson and Noni Eastland for their excellent work in compiling the Yearbook, copies of which were given to each member, I/trs, Moore also reminded the members of "Green Bag Day," which will be held on October 15 this year.
