Natural Resources and Gommunity Development that will provide planning services for updating the GAMA Land Use Plan, The contract was presented to the Board by Gommissioner Larry Jerome. At the same time the Board approved a proposed subcontract for a planning consultant to be named Planner of the Update of the Land Use Plan. Under the terms of the contract the town will pay its local share of the planning costs. Commissioner Jerome also presented to the Board a recommendation urom the Planning Board, along with a suggested ordinance, with respect to clearing out dead and diseased trees. The Planning Board suggested that the ordinance would be useful to protect the public health and safety, ^to protect public and private property from damage, reduce the possibility of interruption of public utility services ^d to protect the environment and the maritime forest from deterioration. Under the ordinance the town, working with a competent tree expert, will determine if a tree creates a hazard and should be "*remove4>SLnd if so, will notify the owner. Commissioner El Ratliffe, of Streets and Public Property, presented a municipal agreement for the inspection and inventory of the Mimosa and Oak- leaf bridges between the town and the North Carolina Denartment of Transportation. The Board accepted the resolution to.use the services of the Department of Transportation or a consulting engineering firm retained by Department of Transportation to inventory and inspect the town's bridges in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards.
