Eastland-Editor Lenora Roberson, Associate Editor ZONING ORPINAI^GE The construction of homes on pilings in Pine Knoll Shores was discussed at a public hearing on March CHANGE DISCUSSED 31 and especially a proposal to amend the ordi nance to require screening of the pilings. There has been a concensus that the present ordinance needs strength— ®J^ing and clarification because the burden of judgement rests on the building inspector* Curt Johnson, Chairman of the Planning Board, proposed the Board’s changes which would require that build ings located within I50 feet of the mean high water mark, or the ocean front toe of the frontal dune, be on pilings, or stilts; if •the house is erected on pilings protruding above the ground, such ^ flood zone area, shall be screened with no load bearing* break-away materials. In non-flood areas the pilings shall be covered with a material of the type and of the same construction as the rest of the building, or material that is compatible with the rest* of the building. Don Brock, realtor and developer, Ken Kirkmari, attorney, and Carl Bivens, architect, spoke in opposition to the proposed amendment. Nelson Taylor, town attorney, presented alternative proposals similar to those of the Planning Board. Discussion from the floor, both pro and con, followed, and since no decision was reached, the Board of Commissioners said they will consider the matter further. CABLE VISION In a letter to the Board of Commissioners, Vision Cable is requesting the approval of the Board CONSIDERS MERGER with respect to a proposed merger with the New- ^ house Group, Inc.
