.At the June 3» meeting of the Pine Knoll Shores Board of
Commissioners, Commissioner Dixson recommended that the
Board approve the merger of Vision Cable into Newhouse, Inc.
The resolution concludes by saying; ”Be It Further Resolved
that this approval is without prejudice to the rights of the Town of Pine Knoll
Shores under the franchise agreement granted on August l6, 197^» for any breaches
or failures to perform the covenants and agreements imposed on the franchisee,
whether such breaches or failures be past or future." The resolution was approved
by the Board.
Commissioner Dixson introduced a resolution that would establish a ’’Road and
Bridge Maintenance Reserve Fund” of $10,000 annually for the specific purpose of
maintenance and repair of town roads and bridges. This fund has been included in
the 19S1-S2 budget which will be presented at a public meeting on Tuesday, June 29»
at 8 p.m., at the Town Hall. With respect to the budget meeting, it was reported
that the proposed tax levy this year will be 17 cents per $100.
Also at this meeting the subject of the regulation concerning the posting of
signs in the town and stricter enforcement of the present sign ordinance will be
Commissioner Dixson also reported he had conducted a public tax lien sale of
properties with delinquent taxes on the Town Hall steps on Monday, May 11, as
advertised. No buyers were present, so the Town now owns the liens on the six
pieces of property which were for sale.
Mayor Cleveland stated emphatically that Pine Knoll Shores wants no part in
the 201 Sewer System plan, which has been proposed. This is a county plan, he said,
for disposal of sewage and was prepared by a private firm so as to apply for federal
funding. Mayor Cleveland pointed out the Plan was obsolete when presented to the
Town and was based on 1970 population figures with no expandable capacity to meet
