Goiniiiissioners Thompson and Johnson also 'spoke in favor of locating an AEG store in town first, with Com missioner Smith agreeing the revenues to the tov/n from the store would support the additional services that probable;- v/ould be called for. Hall of the Atlantis Lodge, however, supported the pro position of referendum first; and Attorney Ken Kirkman, represent ing Don Brock and the Roosevelts, said that liquor-by—the—drink approval would be essential before the proposed village shopping center, which is expected to include a quality restaurant, could get off the ground. At the conclusion of the discussion the Board tabled any action on the proposal until there is further discussion v/ith the ABC Board. GOMr'IISSIONERS REPORT At the July 7th meeting of the Board of ' Gommissioners, Commissioner Jerome dis- QN ACTIVITIES cussed the parking of vehicles on street right-of-v7ay. He said the Planning Board is recommending that some people continually abuse the ‘4Io Parking" rules be contacted by letter. Commissioner Dixson asked' for stronger enforcement, which the Board agreed would be needed if the written reminders v/ere ineffective. The contact by letter was approved by the Board. Commissioner Jerome also presented the building activity report for April, May and June, which shov/ed building permits had been issued for 11 dwellings, 15 condominium units, one commercial pump house and six miscellaneous projects. Construction costs of these structures total $1,563,700. The building report for June listed 18 residences under construction, four condominium clusters and three commercial projects. He noted there has been a decided increase in building activity during recent v:eeks. Commissioner Thompson announced that commendations had been received for three police officers. A letter from a Raleigh resi dent was read praising Officer Mastrorocco for providing assi stance in time of need; Officer DelMese had received a certi ficate from the State Criminal Justice Division awarded for meeting basic law enforcement requirements; and Officer Willis was publicly commended for his handling of a recent boat larceny, which resulted in convictions of those involved. In further police business, the Board approved a request from Chief of Police Crawford for the use of tovm hall facilities for a v/eek*s police training course in September. The course v/ill be conducted by the^North Carolina Criminal Justice Academy for Carteret County officers. And finally, the Board approved the purchase of a nev/ police car for the town.
