~ 3 - garden club hears Art and Connie Browne presented an illustrated discussion of their recent two-week safari to the African stato of OF AFRICAN SAFARI Kenya, which included visits to five national parks and a hot-air balloon ride. The pictures were particularly inter esting showing the many birds and animals which inhabit the area. Following the program the regular monthly meeting was held at which time Alice Jean Noble was introduced as a guest. Nancy Peterson, corresponding secretary, read^a note from Elizabeth Ames accepting the club^s nomination as Honorary Life President. She was the club*s first president. Projects Chairman Helen Granger presented a plan whereby members will share in the work of landscaping the area surrounding the Town Hall, and said other townspeople are welcome to participate. The club will appreciate the donation of azalea plants at this time to help finish the planting of the area. She also reported the club had planted a magnolia tree on the grounds in honor of the late A1 Ratliffe, a town commissioner. The club voted to affiliate with the newly organized Seashore Garden Club Coimcil, which will coordinate efforts of the several clubs in the area, and of which Vivian Macdonald is a vice president. The club wishes to remind all residents of the annual Christmas Eve Luminaria projectj in the event you have not been contacted to participate please call either Vern Wallace at 726-7890 or Vivian Macdonald at 726-6?27. OUR NEW Mary and Harry Bierman moved into 124 VJhite Ash Drive October 13* They had lived on Long Island. They discovered NEIGHBORS RLne Kholl Shores while looking for a retirement place on ^North Carolina coast. Harry had been a football, wrestling and track coach in a high school at Merrick, Long Island for 28 years and still ©njoys football and baseball. Mary and Harry met when they were students at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Mary is originally from Green ville. In the past Mary had worked as a secretary at Grumman Aircraft. She started collecting antiques. I#ien she had acquired more than she needed, she opened a couple of antique shops. They owned their lot for six years before building. They visited here a number of times during that interval. A son and daughter live on Long Island. louise and Paxil Poole have a new house at 242 Salter Path Road. In the past both owned and^managed a motel in Raleigh. F^ior to the motel business they had been^involved in real estate. They still ov;n a membership fishing club near Raleigh. Paul enjoys fishing. Louise likes to sew, crochet and cook and likes to fish only when they are biting. They have a son in Raleigh and a daughter in Windale, N. C. and five grandchildren. IS?. Jane Hillard reminds residents that the Carteret General Hospital^s book cart can use your books. Mayor Cleveland reminds residents of the continuing artists' display at the Town Hall. ^Presently on display are pictures by John Elder and Jim Council. "We V70uld like to have everyone show their work here," he said, and urged those with a bent in this direction to get in touch with the Toi^jn Clerk and make arrangements for the shov/ing.
