TQV/I^ PROPERTY VALUE Commissioner Bill Dixson, in his monthly
financial report to the Board of Commissioners
EXCEEDS $100 MILLION reported that a calculation from the county
tax office indicates that the property value
of Pine Knoll Shores now is $100,167,504. Some of this, he said, results
from the increased building activity in the community, from the re
valuation of property in town and, of course, the J:iigher building costs.
He also said that although tax payments to the town were running about
as usual for this time of the year, there is a notable lag in total
payments, resulting from the lethargy of the county in billing property
owners. Some 50 property owners in Pine Knoll Shores still have not
received their tax bills, a situation which has been brought to the
attention of the tax office and which is hoped will be corrected shortly.
In his report to the Board'^Commissioner Gordon Gibson said that a
•study of the street lighting situation in town indicates there are still
a considerable number of locations where lighting would be appropriate,
and that action would be taken soon at three locations. He also noted
that work on the Mimosa bridge had been halted because of adverse
weather conditions and the discovery of a large block of concrete which
cannot be removed until the weather moderates.
Commissioner Larry Jerome reported that the Land Use study had been
distributed to property owners and that the Planning Board had received
many complimentary comments on its thoroughness. He said, however,
that more than 100 property owners did not receive a copy of the initial
mailing because of a printing shortage, but this situation is being
rectified. He further reported that no building permits for single
family dwellings had been issued in December, however, four certificates
of occupancy were issued. He said that nine single family dwellings
were under construction in town, and four condominium projects were
under way.
