Commissioner Aubrey Johnson reported that the Pine Knoll Shores Rescue Squad had answered five calls in December and that last week end had responded to an urgent call from a visitor in town who was on the verge of delivering her second baby. They arrived at the hospital in time, and a baby girl arrived about 20 minutes later. He also announced a study would be made within the next month concerning an additional fire truck for the town, the study to include a recommendation with respect to the type of equipment needed with respect to the increased growth of Pine Knoll Shores. He said further that a program for the recertification of EIvTTs and drivers, or ambulance attendants, would begin at the Town Hall this week and continue until all EMTs and ambulance attendants had been recertified. Police Commissioner Jack Thompson reported the police department had responded to 33 calls during December and had made 474 inspections of premises whose owners were absent. Further, he said, the police had responded to two traffic accidents in which no injuries were reported, had issued 10 traffic violation citations, made 12 arrests and investi gated two break in and entry reports. He said that during the year 19^1 the police had answered 657 calls, investigated 31 report break-ins and 15 traffic accidents and made 5^ arrests. The Board of Commissioners recently received a request from a group of Pine Knoll Shores ladies to hold their dance/exercise class at Town Hall. The request had some aspects of a commercial project, so the Board decided to discuss the matter and make a decision. This was done and the Board granted the request to the group, and further more voted to permit such functions as this, providing all the partici pants are residents of Pine Knoll Shores and there is no commercial considerations; in other words, that no money-making is involved. This will be for a six-month period to determine if there is a real desirability on the part of Pine Knoll Shores residents for such activity at the Town Hall. Any group who desires to use the Town Hall for this purpose must make the request through the Town Clerk; however, any activity which may be of a questionable nature, the request must be in writing, delivered to the Town Clerk, for action by the Board of Commissioners at their next regular monthly meeting. Such meetings are held at 2 p.m., on the second Tuesday of each month. GARDEN CLUB SELLING Discussion of the Garden Club's current project, the sale and planting of crepe myrtle shrubs, CREPE I^'IYRTLE SHRUBS was the major topic at the group's January meeting. Projects Chairman Helen Granger re ported the club had purchased 200 shrubs, all of which are three to four feet tall, for resale to residents at $3.50 each. The shrubs are available from Mrs. Granger (726-^1^5) or Martha Hare (726-1^29. The club suggests the shrubs be planted in a sunny location that is visible from the street or roadways. However, if you would like to plant these and have no available place on your property, you may designate the shrubs be planted at Town Hall, with Club members handling the planting.
