Page -3- • there Mas apparently some confusion as to whether the Board understood the petitioner to be speaking of diameter and as to whether the petitioner meant circumference. After hearing considerable testimony as to the intent to use the proposed room to house a permanent caretaker, assurances that the room would be owned in common by all unit holders and woiad never be sold and consideration of other options that might be available, the Board adjourned to the si'te* Upon its return, it resumed its deliberations and finally denied the variance. Apparently the trees were in fact much smaller than the Board had understood and, presumably, the Board did not see fit to grant a variance to save small trees. However, the decision was not unanimous, but was 3 to 2, The matter was heard by Chairman E3d Baker, Bob Ames, Bill Bosse, Mary Korff and Dan Vaughn, What a party! Celebrating the Town’s first 10 years couldn't have been more fun I The Town Hall never looked better; each blade of grauss and each leaf had been shined. Gaily colored balloons had miraculously sprouted all over the place, A handsome what-you-may-call-it floated near the Town Hall steps bearing appropriate inscriptions. Inside, a goodly number of men were kept very busy pouring and pouring champagne. Another table offered delicious hors d*oeuvres. More balloons added their color to that BIRTHDAY plants and flowers in the large meeting room, PARTY There was no head count of those present, but there must have been some 200 or more. In any case, they were all very happy people and sounded as if most of the Town had turned out to whoop it up. This was the setting for a few remarks by Mary Doll who, during her absence from the country, had been assigned the job of arranging the affair. She thanked by name all of those who had assisted her. It was noticeable that her recognition of the services of our Town Clerks brought forth a prolonged cheer. But the speech, amusing as Mary always is, was outdone by the duet Mary and husband Bill sang in honor of the day. As usual Mary sang very well, indeed, even though neither the melody nor the woxxis were, shall we say, of operatic quality. Bill? Well, he sang loud. Everyone had a great time at this ^-6 event and, surprisingly enough, the last of the champagne was served at precisely 6 o'clock. Now, it seems like the day after Christmas, It makes us sad to think that we will have to wait for years to do it all again! Those red marks you may have seen outlining potholes, dips and cracks in PKS streets were put there recently by Town Commissioner Hoot Gibson and Ken Hanan to guide contrac tors Hoot has asked to bid on the town's street repair needs. The contractors were asked ROAD REPAIRS submit their bids by September 13 so that Hoot can report to the full Board of Commissioners — who meet on that date — and recommeni an award MARKED IN RED of contract. Hoot and Ken recently set out on bicycles to inspect all of the town's 11 miles of streets for spots in immediate need of repair. Then they returned by automobile armed with spray paint to outline the trouble spots in red. They superimposed their markings •on PKS maps which were furnished to the contractors as guides in preparing their bids. In addition, contractors planning to offer bids were asked to make appointments with Hoot or Ken for personal surveys of the areas in need of repair.
