C. 28512 VoltiBe V - Number 7 July 1984 Noel Yancey - Bdltor Many nonths of vork, studies, debate and public hearings were completed on Tuesday, July 10, when the Fine Kholl Shores Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to change the zoning ordinance to allow a maximum density of 22 units per acre In a Commerclal-1 TOWN BOARD zone. Certain other clarifications of terms were Included In ttie —~ change, Fred Libby, in addition to presenting the motion for the ADOPTS changes to the ordinance, moved to rezone the area south of North Carolina Highway 3® (Salter Path Rosul) and west of ^he John Yancey Motel (except the Iron Steamer property) from C-1 to C-2. He also moved that the Ramada Inn be rezoned from C-2 to C-1. The motion was passed by unanimous vote, A C*2 zone retains the 8 units per acre density. Mayor Ken Haller administered the oath of office to Brenda Cox of the Town Hall 'flee, naming her City Tax Collector. Jack Thompson read sealed bids from three companies for a new flretruck and fire fla^iilng equlpaent. The bids ranged from $42,048 to $55»800 (Including tax). Thompson thanked representatives of the companies making the bids and planned further meetings to study them In detail. He called a special commissioners meeting for 9 a,m, on ' July 20 to decide on the bids. He reported that 97 police calls were answered In June, Including four fire calls. fiklly Vhlte, reported a financial balance of $394,739,47, $229,667,57 In taxes have been collected, with $619.29 still outstanding. The board moved to write off $11.12 property tax on an auto owned by a former resident who cannot be located. $446.52 of the uncollected balance Is a tax payment Involved In a property sale that •hotild be settled vezy soon. Gordon **Hoot** Gibson reported 9 rescue calls had been answered In June. He said 8 persons had enrolled in classes for training as ambulance attendants. They are meeting on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Town Hall for a total of 36 training hours. Ken Hanan said that spraying for mosqiilto control had begun that day and would con tinue through July 12. He said some street repair work will be done on Oakleaf and Mimosa. CMUQl88ioner Libby presented a 6-month building report, comparing the first six months of 1984 to the same period in 1983* Residential starts are down 2 and commercial •tarts are down 1, but the estimated costs of the construction projects are up about 2i mlUlon dollars over 1983. oOo------- Bulk Rate U.
