The Board of Commissioners elected Ken Kanan mayor of Fine Knoll Shores at their
regxilar meeting on March 12, to complete the current term of office left vacant by the
death of Wayne Cleveland in November, 1983i and by Ken Haller's resignation on February
20.
KEN HASAN Hanan was elected to the board in November 1983, and has served as Gom-
TS NFW MAYOR missioner of Streets and Public Property. Ken and his wife, Yola, moved
to Pine Knoll Shores from Chatham, N.J., in March of 1982. Hanan retired
OF PKS after 15 years as editor of a trade publication of heavy industry and
spent 25 years previous to that in the heavy construction indtistry. He
holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of Kichigan. Hanan is a valued

Mayor pro-tem Jack Thompson read Ken Haller’s letter of resignation and moved that
John Sullivan, Vfalnut Circle, be appointed to fill the vacancy on the Board of Commission
ers. John and Cecile Sullivan moved to the town in February, 1984, from Long Island, New
York. John retired as corporate manager of labor relations for the North American Philips
Co. in New York City. The Honorable Mary Austin, Carteret County Clerk of Court, admin
istered the oaths of office to Ifeyor Hanan and Commissioner Sullivan.
Dick Collins was granted the opportunity to restate his request for a satellite
dish antenna. He said he had submitted the request for a building permit on February 6
and asked that it be ruled on.
1'!^ Emily White, Commissioner of Finance, reported a February 1 balance of $593»^22,47.
She moved that a bxidget amendment be made moving $^■,600 of unappropriated funds into in
creased administrative, planning and street funds. She also asked authority for sale of
a police cax and for photographing several books of past minutes to be stored in the State
Archives in Raleigh, All motions and recommendations passed.
Planning Canmissioner Fred Libby reported five certificates of occupancy had been
granted the past month, leaving 22 single dwellings and 19 condominium complexes with a
total of 295 units now under construction.
