One resident commended the Board for keeping the tax rate at 19^ per $100 evaluation. There were no other comments, BUDGET Immediately following the hearing the commissioners, after some discussion APPROVAT $15*000 item to automate office procedures, rejected an amendnent ^— — to limit the provision to cover only a study of the need for automation, AND OTHER They then went on to approve the budget as presented, y. Other business at the meeting concerned the proposed new tank to be con- -structed by the Carolina Water Service. The tank must be I30 feet high in order that it be the sane level as the present tank and since this would violate the 50 foot liait in the ordinance, a public hearing will be held June 2^ and 2j00 p.m. and the Gommissloners will meet following the hearing to act on this. Robert Yoxmgblood and David Sledge were asked to bring in more detailed plans for the drainage of lots 1, 2 and 3 of Fairway Subdivision before approval could be granted to build on those lots. The Building Inspector's report listed four new residential starts, 27 permits for the Episcopal Church property and eight miscellaneous permits. Eight certificates of occupancy were issued. Commissioner Thompson reported that a new hydrant had been installed on Holly Road. Mayor Hanan announced that pursuamt to the public hearings held on Liquoi>by- the-drink on June 10 the commissioners concluded that a referendum was indicated and a request has gone to the County to set one up. Nearly a hundred swimmers were at Ocean Park on Jiuie 1 to witness the demonstra tion of jrescue equipment arranged by the Pine Knoll Association, Demonstrators werej Ken Hanan, Pete Peterson and his father, John A.
