At the CoDuiissloners' meeting August 13th Commissioner Thompson read the letter
sent to Police Chief Edgar William Crawford from the Attorney General and Director David
D.Cashwell, Director of the Criminal Justice Standards Division of the Department of
CHIEIP CRAWFORD Justice^ announcing his selection as a recipient of that department's
highest award, the law Enforcement Officers' Advanced Certificate, To
^fTNS AWARD be considered for this award the candidate must have spent at least nine
yeeirs in law enforcement and have earned a minimum of 90 points in
college and training credits. Selection is then based on individual performance. In his
letter Director Cashwell saidt "Your dedication to your chosen profession will be evi
denced in the fact that you will be one of a very select group of officers receiving this
honor,,," We congratulate Ed on this fine achievement.
The commissioners went on to approve the plsm for control of storm damage submitted
by Fairway Subdivision and the moratorium on building on lots 1, 2 and 3 was lifted.
The land use update committee was appointed. Art Browne, Larry Jerome, Bob
Armstrong, Ken Haller, Nell Crumley, Morgan Hammer and Ed Olsen will serve, La:^ Zucchino
has been engaged as professional advisor.

The Mayor announced iha.t so many people have called to protest the increase in
the water rates he has appointed Sal Franzo to prepare a letter to be presented at the
public hearing in Raleigh, October 1st, If you wish to be a part of this protest, contact

whose roof drains are directed into the canals requesting modification of their systems
since these aggravate the pollution problem.
