MEET COMMISSIONERS Highlights oF the commissioners' reports indicated that the town has already received substantial response From the tax bills mailed out in July; the Land Use Update has been submitted For First appraisal; an application For a CAMA permit has been submitted by the committee on Flood control; new classes are being arranged For rescue workers and volunteers are needed; police are once again equipped with radar detection which had broken down in May. Several items in the municipal code were changed to comply with state decree. Cer tain violations Formerly considered a misdemeanor have been changed to inFractions ^M^ject to up to $50. Fine but not made part oF a criminal record. They are: Unlicensed ^Khicles on private property [3-6], Parking violations [7-4.14], Required obedience to TraFFic Ordinances [7-2.1]. Obedience to Police is required in all matters and,except in matters oF operation and parking oF vehicles, Failure to do so a misdemeanor [7-2.E]. An ordinance was passed establishing setback requirements For buildings on canal properties, including decks and porches, at 30 Feet. Ceremonies For the dedication and unveiling oF the historical marker commemorating the First recorded European contact with North Carolina by Verrazzano in 1524 are scheduled For August 23rd. Invitations are now being sent out. Mayor Hanan will give the Invocation. Joe Conrad oF Dogwood Circle had asked to be heard on the matter oF garbage disposal. Many rental properties are in violation oF the regulations. Containers, when they are used at all, are leFt out to blow and roll around For a week at a time. ReFuse, when not in containers, is sometimes in paper bags which do not hold up and contents are spread over the street and right-oF-way.
