COMMISSIONERS MEET
Prior to opening the meeting Mayor Hanan introduced Judy Spitbergen of
the Beaufort Historical Society who had asked to speak to the commissioners
regarding a three year program proposed for the county of which she is the
coordinator. This project would identify historical sites throughout the
county about which a publication would be issued at the end of three years.
Funding is possible through the state up to $15,000 but it is contingent on
those funds being matched. She said that if Pine Knoll Shores could raise
$ApO either publicly or privately toward the project it would be a fair
s^BPre.
Mayor Hanan assured her that probably there would be individual
donations from organizations and townsfolk and that the Board would consider
the request during its budget meeting next month.
Three sealed bids for a new fire engine had been received and were
opened at this time. They ranged from upwards of $110,000 to $129,000.
Their comparative merits will be studied by the Fire Commissioner and members
of the fire department and a recommendation made to the Board within 30 days.
The Flood Ordinance, subject of a public hearing in March,was finalized
and adopted. This will become a part of the Municipal Code.
Commissioner Johnson announced that a budget conference will be held •
early in May and a public hearing on the budget would be held in June.
Commissioner Libby reported that the Building Inspector had issued 5
residential permits, 1 commercial permit, 8 miscellaneous permits and 9
certificates of occupancy, 6 of these in McGinnis Point. The planning Board
had recommended an ordinance on Bulkhead repair and a hearing was scheduled
to consider this ordinance on May 12th.
