Mayor Hanan reported that fireworks set off on the Sittuin at the ocean threatened private homes in the area as the wind carried aerial bombs back over the land instead of over the ocean. You are reminded that these fireworks are illegal and the law will be enforced in Pine Knoll Shores. Plans for the addition to the Holiday Inn were approved. Mr. Williams was informed that the building inspector for this construction would be the County Building Inspector. The North Carolina Seafood festival will be held in Morehead City October 1 through 4. Commissioner Sotir asked for sponsors and volunteers. If you are interested call 726-1212. Four openings on the Planning Board and on the Community Appearance Commission are to be filled in September. Mayor Hanan observed that there are many people in town who may be interested and would qualify. A Hurricane workshop will be held in the Town Hall on August 12 at 2:30 p.m. This is mainly for new residents but there are changes so we all could benefit. Persons who trap raccoons are asked to cease and desist from now until the Fall because this is the period when the young are born and need their mothers' care. The new contract for Waste Industries was approved. The mayor will write a letter concerning the room tax recently passed requesting allo cation of 50% of revenues therefrom to the Towns. Frank Johnson made a plea for maintenance dredging of the channels in the Sound. He reported on places where the channel is only 3 feet deep and others where docks extend so far into the channel that boats go aground trying to get by them. Owners of the latter will be asked to remove the docks. Dredging may be possible within town limits if dis posal of spoils can be arranged. It is estimated that about 1000 cubic yards of spoils will result. _________ oOo --------- PLANNING BOARD The Planning Board is v/orking on the proper identification of property since the present system of putting the number on the mail box does not indicate which side of the street the numbered residence is located. Quick identification of property is important in the case of fire or rescue calls. Recommended changes to the subdivision ordinance were approved for recommendation to the Board of Commissioners. To the preliminary plat requirements would be added base flood elevation and flood zone designations, copies of agreements, conveyances and restrictions or covenants, and the availability of a representative of the developer to answer questions. Members are also sulanitting to the Town Attorney their proposed changes in the con trol of litter and trash ordinance.
