BEVERLEY BLAYLOCK _________ oOo --------- s LIBRARY COMMITTEE ORGANIZED About thirty people, including representatives from Atlantic Beach, Indian Beach and Emerald Isle, came to the organizational meeting held at the Town Hall on March 1st to study the problems involved in maintaining a library on Bogue Banks. Commissioner Emily White had been appointed by Mayor Hanan to organize such a committee with the hope that when the Bogue Banks Library must vacate the space in the North Carolina Aquarium it would not be lost to us. Dr. Ned Smith, Director of the Aquarium, told the gathering that it was with the "greatest reluctance" he had notified the Tri-County Library Board that the Aquarium could no longer spare the space now being used by the library. He said that he had been under pressure from Raleigh to do this and had been for the last two years. He said it had been a happy association of mutual benefit but that they just could not meet their commitment to the people of North Carolina within the confines of the space they are now using. He gave the library a year to find a place to relocate.
