Page -2- In the absence of Ccanmissioner White, Mayor Hanan reported 154 police calls, 100 traffic violations and 120 house checks. There were two fire calls, one a small grass fire on Oakleaf and the other a standby at Holiday Inn when the roof was being tarred. It was felt by the Commissioners that the public hearing on the proposed drainage ^ of storm water into the canal seemed to indicate that alternative measures could be taken. They voted to engage a second engineering firm to make a study and a remedy. Gil Millington sutmitted his resignation as Post-disaster Civil Preparedness Director. This was reluctantly accepted. Fred Libby was appointed the new Post-Disaster Director. The ever-recurring problem of how to control animals at large came up again. It was decided to look for ways in which the police can take action. Present ordinances call for a letter of warning and there may be situations when the police cannot wait for this. The final action taken by the Board was to take over the cost of the reflector straps which the Women's club had been supplying free but can no longer afford to do. This came at the request of Marge Turney, President of the Club. She said that it was thought the Town office could collect the charge of $2.50 which they were starting to invoke but this was contrary to Town policy. [The person who was incorrectly charged for one will be reimbursed. Inquire at the office]. While the supply lasts they are obtainable at the Town Hall free of charge. If you are walking or jogging on the roads after dusk wear one of these straps. It will make you readily visible to motorists. In April the Planning Board completed their study of Egret Lake Phase 2, Forest Dunes Phase 2, and Fiddlers Ridge, Lots 1-11 and reccaranended to the Commissioners they be approved. The permitted use chart which Cliff Mitchell and Jack Green have been working on g is now ccanplete. Distribution of this document will follow. At present only the Buildiil Inspector has one. In order to provide the space for the Wildlife Center certain ordinances must be changed: use of park land and restrictions on poultry and animals. Necessary changes were recommended to the Commissioners. It is hoped the Town will have access to the beach for ambularce and/or other service vehicles. An ordinance change to allow that is under investigation by Godfrey Zumbach. Steps were also taken to provide for allowable recc*nbination of lots in an approved subdivision. There will also be study of the animal control ordinance for recommenda tion to the Commissioners. The new meeting date of the Planning Board is the 4th Wednesday of the month at 2:00 p.m. Community Appearance made 18 inspections in April. Two inspections involving the removal of unwanted trees were not reccxnmended. Members are continuing to notify owners of unsightly property conditions and two members were appointed to visit the owners when possible. Reccxnmendation and estimates of cost were subnitted to the Commissioners to provide water source and sprinkler system so that the Garden Club could water the plantings at the entrances to Pine Knoll Shores at Oakleaf and Mimosa.
