COMMISSIONERS MEET
I
The August Town Board Meeting was preceded by a public hearing concerning the
Zoning Ordinance reorganization which has been the subject of many workshops for about
six months. It was explained that there were no substantive changes to the zoning
ordinance involved, in answer to one of the questions. It was merely an effort to in
corporate our ordinance into a more efficient form.
At the meeting the Commissioners made their reports. Commissioner Johnson summarized
his report on finances by saying that approximately 1/2 of 1% of revenues have so far been
collected in this new fiscal year, and about 8% of expenditures have been made. Only one
tax is outstanding from the fiscal year 85/87.
Commissioner Roderick reported that water has been installed in the planting sites
on Oakleaf Drive and Mimosa Boulevard. Repaving of a portion of Oakleaf Drive is in
progress. Spraying for mosquitoes is done on a weekly basis during this heavily infested
season. He also said that the complaints about the storm drain at Beechwood Drive was
studied and steps will be taken to raise the lip to 7 or 8 inches to decrease the flow
of water from the street to the canal.
Commissioner Shedd said that there was no report from the Planning Board since a
quorum was not present at the July meeting. The Building Inspection report showed that
one residential permit, eight miscellaneous permits but no commercial permits were issued
in July. Two CO's were given.
Commissioner Sotir said that the Rescue Squad desired to raise the level of EMT
capability to include EMT-D [Defibrilation]. This will require more hours of training
and more equipment. Matching funds will be requested to help finance this project. It
is hoped that all this can be accomplished within the next six months. There were ten
emergency calls in July.
Police answered 181 calls and performed 22 breatholizer tests and the Fire Squad
answered two calls in July, Commissioner White reported.
