When the information has teen obtained there will be meetings held at whidi representatives of the utility services and the insurance and real estate companies can report on the impact such a pro gram might have on these vital matters. The meetings and hearings are expected to be held in the latter part of September. Be looking for the announcements which will be published. It is also planned that property owners in the affected area will be polled to see if they wish the project to go through once the information has been made available. There will be some vacancies to be filled on the Planning Board, the Board of Adjust ment and the Community Appearance Coiiinission this fall. If you are interested in serving on one of these boards the Commissioners would like to hear from you in writing. Tlie personnel ordinance was amended to allow the Town to have all town employees "at will" employees by allowing the Commissioners to abrogate certain procedures contained therein. The Town has been notified by the State that it has been officially made a turtle sanctuary and also that the tree preservation ordinance is allowable. Details of what these two measures entail have not yet been received. In other actions the Commissioners voted to rescind a resolution made in July con cerning the extension of water lines since it was not timely. Also, they requested the Planning Board to study and recommend an ordinance controlling the moving of houses onto Pine Knoll Shores lots. The meeting was not adjourned. The Commissioners went into executive session. --------- oOo --------- CIVIL PREPAREDNESS Something which needs repeating is the material put out by the Civil Preparedness Committee. We have reprinted it in tearoff sheets attached to the back of this issue. We suggest you refresh your memory by reading them again and keep them with your UPDATED REENTRY PERMIT. --------- oOo --------- FROM THE HISTORY Last month we left off our review of the History of Pine Knoll Shores at the end of the article on the Planning Board. It goes on to describe the function of the Board of Adjustment with an example of the appeal to increase the density for multiple family dwellings on the ocean front. This was denied by the board, but only after very careful consideration. The history goes on to tell of the creation of the Community Appearance Commission and tells of the contributions this Commission has made. Subsequent chapters describe the offices of the Town i.e. The Town Clerk, Police and Fire Chiefs, Building Inspector, Tax Collector and the Town Attorney. These are also appointed positions as are the members of the boards described above. A brief history of each is helpful in understanding their duties and responsibilities. Read all about it! --------- oOo ---------
