Page -2- Commissioner Shedd reported the activities of the planning Board which are covered below. The Building Inspector issued two residential permits, 4 miscellaneous permits and 3 certificates of occupance in September. The commercial section of Pine Pvnoll Village was offered for approval as recommended by the Planning Board. This was done. Commissioners also voted to appoint Ruth Turner to the Board of Adjustment to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Liz Britton. Commissioner Sotir reported 10 emergency rescue calls. He also said that the EMT's will have training in November to operate the defibrilation equipment. That they are willing to devote this extra time is indeed appreciated. The training and the equipnent will enhance their effectiveness when called for heart attacks. Commissioner White reported 134 police calls, 75 traffic violations, 203 house checks and 15 breathalizer tests in September. There were no fires. Mayor Hanan announced that the water company had responded to his request by scheduling the hearing on the raise in rates in Pine Knoll Shores at 9:30 a.m., Friday, October 31. The Department of Agriculture which has been studying the incidence of gypsy moths in the town reported there is no new infestation. The Commissioners then voted to change the ordinances to permit the establishment of a wildlife rehabilitation center. They also passed the proposed amendment in regard to the recombination of lots. North Carolinians will be briefed on the proposal of Mobil Oil to drill for oil off shore on October 19, at 7:00 p.m. Watch the paper to find out where it will be held in Carteret County. The workshop regarding the relief of flooding problems for certain residents in the eastern section of the town was held on October 5th. There were many conments at that tim^P The decision of the commissioners has been to poll all residents of the designated area as to whether or not the proposed swale system is acceptable. They will then act in accor dance with that poll even though it is ret binding for them to do so. Next month Town Board meeting day falls on election day. It was voted to postpone the meeting to the following Tuesday, November 15th at 1:00 p.m. PLANNING BOARD MEETS At the September Planning Board meeting new member, Lois Jean O'Keefe, along with members reappointed: Harry Schlimper, Joe Condra and A.D.Hall, were sworn in by Mayor Hanan. The Board voted to recommend the final plat approval of Pine Knoll Village commercial section. Further study is being made of a house moving policy, a tree preservation ordi nance and the sign ordinance as it pertains to signs for open house, garage or yard sales. Such signs are not presently permitted. COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION Community Appearance reported 18 site approvals in August. Other business involved reports on properties which have been targeted for cleanup and measures to be taken to establish a policy in regard to trimming trees on the oceanfront properties. BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT The Board held its annual meeting in October. Mayor Hanan administered the oath of office to new members, Lee Hereth and Jim Smith. The members then proceeded to elect Bill Bosse as the new chairman and reelected Corinne Geer as secretary. There is a vacancy on the board because of the resignation of Liz Bitton. When the new appointment is made the Board will elect a vice-chairman.
