Club, represented by President Ready, came to the meeting to make a formal request that
steps be taken to keep the highway more attractive by more frequent mowing and pickup
of trash than the State has provided.
Commissioner Sotir told the group that Rescue Squad EMT-D certification will require
27 hours of training and regular recertification will not be waived. The defibrillation
equipnent will be purchased.
Mayor Hanan announced that from now on anyone who wishes to address the Board at
its regular meetings must register with the Town Clerk to be placed on the agenda. Dead
line for this will be the Thursday before the meeting [unless specified to the contrary
the meeting is held on the second Tuesday of every month].
In December Mayor Hanan opened the meeting by thanking those who decorated the Town
Hall for Christmas. They are: Erma Johnson, Lois Jean O'Keefe, Elsa Wenzel, Aubrey
Johnson and Corinne Geer.
Next he thanked the Pine Knoll Association and PlKSCO for the decoration of street
signs on Highway 58. Ed Moeller was in charge of that project and workers included
Maxine Moeller, Bill and Ellen Von Thaden, Dave and Cathy Hasulak, and Jack and Connie
Anthony. Becky Moore represented PiKSCO.
Margaret Caruthers commented on the audit report which had been submitted to the
Commissioners. She said the Town was in a healthy situation. She had a few recommenda
tions, one of them that the Town adopt a cash management plan and that was later proposed
by Commissioner Johnson and passed. The audit report was accepted.
Commissioner Johnson also introduced a resolution for the disposal of surplus
property, which was adopted. He then moved that the old telephone system which no
one has bid on be donated to Carteret Community College for use in their education
program.
Commissioner Roderick is still working on the upkeep of Route 58. He is also
setting up a project to clear up the boat parking lot behind the Town Hall.
Commissioner Shedd gave the Building Inspector's report. There were 2 residential
and 3 miscellaneous permits issued. No certificates of occupancy.
A Public Hearing on the model zoning ordinance and a tree protection ordinance
recommended by the Planning Board will be held at 1:00 p.m. on January 10, 1989, he
announced. The proposed ordinances are available for your perusal at the Town Hall.
Commissioner Sotir reported 5 Rescue calls in November. He also wished to recognize
the four members who are terminating their duties after long and faithful service. The
Commissioners extended a vote of thanks to Jim Wagner, Dick Perkins, Chuck Young and
Aubrey Johnson.
Commissioner White said there were no fire calls in November. Police had 111 calls,
339 house checks, 5 traffic violations and 11 breatholizer tests. She recommended the
hiring of a new officer, Brandon Macklin, to replace the officer who resigned. The
Commissioners approved.
Commissioners voted down a proposed agreement with other towns to be presented to
the Legislature concerning how to apportion the proceeds from the proposed room tax.
Recycling materials will be collected by the Clean County Conmission at the National
Guard Armory on Wednesday, December 28th. The Commission has put out an appeal for help
in handling these materials. If you are able to give a little time to this project
please contact them.

Town's proposal for drainage were handled by the auditor, Margaret Caruthers, and
