presented to the Mayor in a sealed envelope. Just like the Academy Awards! There were
150 people contacted, 105 responded. The vote was 74 yes and 31 no. The Town will
proceed with engineering studies.
You are reminded that license tags are required for all vehicles in Pine Knoll
Shores. 1989 tags will be available at the Town Hall beginning January 1st.
It was also announced that renewal of the "Sunshine" list [persons who wish to be
notified of meetings] is required for 1989. The fee is $10 and the request must be made
to the Town Clerk in writing.
The Commissioners adjourned to executive session and returned later to announce
that the subject of the session was Christmas bonuses. The meeting was then adjourned.
PLANNING BOARD MEETS IN NOVEMBER
This Board is working on a recommendation for the amount of impervious material
allowed on a single building lot. Two more months will be needed for this study.
A tree protection ordinance was recommended and will be the subject of discussion
at the Public hearing on January 10.
There is also a study being made of the possibility of allowing signs for yard sales
and open house.
The nine recommended revisions to the model zoning ordinance will be the subject
of the Public Hearing next month. They are available for your review at the Town Hall.
They are concerned with building heights, mostly, but other points are mentioned.
COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION
The Commission made 7 inspections in October. One was for a new house and the rest
for tree removal requests. All were approved.
The request to prune trees made by Beachwalk Condominiums was considered and the
conditions of approval were conveyed to the owners.
The group decided not to adopt a portion of the highway to keep free of litter for
reasons of safety.
NEW TELEPHONE NUMBER
Now you can reach the Secretary or Treasurer of Pine Knoll Association and PiKSCO
without going through the club switchboard. Make a note of this number:
247-1717
Winter hours are 10 to 1 daily, Monday through Saturday.
We also learned that the PKA has plans to plant about 15 dogwoods at the Ocean Park.
They are small right now but they will be big trees before you know it! Thanks for
making Pine Knoll Shores prettier.
FESTIVAL OF TREES BIG SUCCESS
Pine Knoll Shores was well represented at the Festival of Trees. We hope you were
able to see all the trees at the Maritime Museum. Our oxm tree is now at the Aquarium
so come and have a look.
Margaret Smith and Diane Donovan write:
