About the Maritime Forest Protection ordinance there was no comment. About the Model Zoning Ordinance it was a different story. The John Yancey Corp. engaged the services of Davis and Newton, P.A. to present a nine page presentation on the subject of building heights, advocating no change.in the present ordinance but offering an alternative ordinance to the one recommended by the Planning Board if they felt it must be changed. Maureen Parker had comments on the ordinance as a whole pointing out possible discrepancies. At the meeting which followed, the Forest Protection Ordinance was passed. The Commissioners voted to approve all recommended changes to the Zoning Ordinance except the one on building heights. This matter was tabled until after a workshop scheduled for Thursday, January 26th at 1:00 p.m. to study the points raised in the hearing. COMMISSIONERS MEET The Commissioner of Finance, Aubrey Johnson, gave the investment report, expendi ture and receipt report and the tax collection report. It was noted that 98+% of taxes had been collected by the cutoff date of January 6, 1989 as opposed to the 82+% of last year. Commissioner Johnson presented the investment policy which was approved. He also presented a Cash Management Plan, the auditor contract with Margaret Caruthers, CPA, an amendment to the budget ordinance and requested approval of Carolina Telephone as the long distance company of choice. All these were voted on and approved.
