This method of collec ting is authorized under a Nortliparolina statute. Johnson suggested calling a special work session to review town pay scales. Session will be held at 1:00 p.m. on August 22. Commissioner Roderick stated that homeoimers in Beacon's Reach and Ocean Bay Villas had requested that they be included in refuse collection. While on the subject of refuse pick-up, Roderick commented on the sloppy and unsanitary situation that is created by the trucks from Waste Industries leaking smelly liquid onto town streets as they compress garbage on their rounds. Legal counsd. will investigate what action can be taken to force 1. Waste industries to cease fouling town roads. Roderick also commented on the continuing •problem of flooding at the corner of Beechwood and Sycamore. He requested authorization to hire a road engineer to study the problem. The board approved his request. Commissioner Shedd reported on the issuance of two residential, one commercial, five miscellaneous permits and one certificate of occupancy in July. Shedd asked for a motion to accept a language change amendment that the Planning Board had proposed concerning parcels of property divided by a public street or highway. The proposal states that properties shall be considered independently for the purposes of determining compliance with construction density, land utilization, parking and building coverage. Discussion centered around flexibility for property owners to develop without burdensome zoning ordinances. Should a septic field be excluded from the 35% open natural area requirement? What about parking, should that also be excluded? Both items will be discussed at the August work session. Tune in next month for the board's decisions. Commissioner Sotir reported on the excellent response time of our town's Rescue Squad to emergency calls. The Rescue Squad responded to 15 emergencies during July.
