Gerry Turner from C^rterest Craven Electric Membership Corporation spoke on the need for the utility to expand their facility in Pine Knoll Shores. This will entail installing five new 80-100 foot steel pover stancheons, 3 on Pine Knoll Boulevard and 2 on Roosevelt '"’BoulevBr3T The utility claims stancheons are'the most economical method of construction as opposed to underground cabling. The utility requested an easement to construct the utility poles on public right-of-way and also to allow guy wires to be constructed to support each pole. This easement would require trimming or removal of trees which would Diane Warrender, Chairman of the Carteret County 'Keep America Beautiful' committee spoke on the county's recycling program and how it affects Pine Knoll Shores. Recycling is important to the county, as the landfill that is used for garbage will be filled within five years. An article on recycling is included in this issue. Mayor Hanan read a letter from the Pine Knoll Association concerning dog litter on our beaches. He stated that perhaps an ordinance can be written, but enforcement is difficult. It was suggested that public vigilance to report visitors who fail to pick up or bury dog droppings might help. There is an article on this matter later in this issue. According to Mayor Hanan the library fund drive has bogged down. The collections so far are $18,000. The library needs $40,000. They need your help! Without libraries we would be forced to watch television, and that should be enough incentive to help with your contribution! As noted in the Commissioners' meeting, the Planning Board had been asked to recon sider the requirements for property in single ownership divided by a highway. At the request of the attorney for the John Yancey Corporation, the to\m attc'rney has redrafted requirements. The town attorney was not present to answer questions nor was there a representative prepared to speak from the Yancey Corporation. It was moved that the Planning Board recommend again to the Board of Commissioners the clarifying language previously recommended. It was stated that special use provisions are not uncommon in planning and that the Commissioners have asked the Planning Board to look into the matter further in order to help them make a decision on the newly prepared language and require ments. It was voted that the Planning Board recommend again the adoption of the clarifying language concerning the requirements for development of property in single ownership divided by a street. Pine Knoll Shores was recognized as the best example of preservation and planning for maritime forest. Since the purpose of the Community Appearance Commission is to preserve the natural barrier island beauty by assisting the Town in maintaining restrictions, we thought it might be beneficial to include some of the Ordinances [or other things that should be addressed] in our monthly reports. During the summer, especially when some of you rent your homes, we would like every one to remember that, "garbage and trash containers shall be placed on Town right-of-way for collection. Garbage and trash not so placed will not be collected. Containers shall not be placed for collection prior to twelve [12] hours before scheduled collection and shall be removed within twelve [12] hours after collection." [Ord. 9/7/75, S4]. Collection days are Monday and Thursday. We respectfully suggest if you are leaving the area to either take the refuse with you, to dispose of at your destination, or ask a neighbor to assist you in seeing that the twelve hour rule is observed. ■constitute a hazard to the guy wires. The commissioners approved the granting of the easement. BOB RUGGIERO PLANNING BOARD COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION
