PLANNING BOARD The Board studied the ordinance pertaining to use of non-conforming structures brought up because of the continued use by the Carolina Water Service office in a private residence zone. The board felt that the ordinance was clear and did not need changing. The December meeting of the Planning Board has been cancelled. COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION The Commission has worked up an action request procedure in cooperation with the building inspector whereby unsightly situations which violate town codes are identified and owners are given ten days in which to correct the condition. Members completed 20 inspections during November. Three were of new homes, three for tree removal, six additions to existing homes, and the remainder miscellaneous. A large portion of the pleasure derived from living in Pine Knoll Shores is sharing the pride and efforts put forth by fellow residents. In that vein, we would like to recognize and applaud a few people. Firstly, thank you, Maxine and Ed Moeller, for the beautiful beribboned evergreen swags you made and hung on all the street posts on Salter Path Road. They add so positively to the warm spirit of Christmas that permeates our community. Also, we hope everyone takes the time to traverse Town Hall to see the spectacular decorations hanging there. Erma Johnson and Lois Jean O'Keefe are responsible for making those—all made of natural materials and truly outstanding. Thank you for sharing your talents with us MARGE TURNEY BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT The Board of Adjustment held a special meeting on November 28th for the swearing in of new members: Ted Goetzinger and Libby Schlimper, and the election of a Chairman and Vice Chairman to fill the positions vacated by Bill Bosse and Jim Smith. George Falkenberg was elected chairman and Hank Ingram Vice Chairman. The meeting was followed by a work shop for new members. On December 5 the board met to hear the appeal of Bruce and Betsy Hathaway for a variance in height requirement of the house to be constructed in Forrest Dunes. Their appeal was presented by Fred Hathaway, brother of Bruce, who is a contractor. The Hathaways requested that they be allowed to add 6 feet to the bottom of the house in order to accomodate a driveway which otherwise would be so high it went over the top of the trees. The topography of the lot is unique. This part of the dune is extra ordinarily high. The result would be a house which would not be higher than surrounding houses but technically would be more than the 35 feet limit required. The variance was granted. -------- oGo -------- ATTENTION ALL BOAT OWNERS The Annual Christmas Boat Parade will be held as usual on December 24, 1989 at 5:00 p.m. at Brock Basin.
