COMMISSIONERS MEET
Mayor Hanan read two Proclamations prior to the opening of the business portion of^
the meeting marking February as American History Month and March as Carteret Public Giving
month. Both Proclamations are included in this issue.
Commissioner Blanchard announced that the town has an agreanent with Robert Youngblood
for snow removal in the event of another visit from old man winter. This agreement should
result in an early response which will help to open the town streets to all traffic.
Blanchard also reported on the county private well testing program. Details on the program
are included in this issue.
Commissioner Gibson announced that all of the town police officers have qualified
with the use of the newly acquired 9 mm pistols. He also stated that the town had pur
chased a new Ford Crown Victoria for police use. The vehicle to be retired will be put
up for sale.
Commissioner Hasulak reported that all members of the Fire and Rescue Squads had
received bee sting injections, as the bee season will soon be upon us.
Corinne Geer gave the financial report in the absence of Commissioner Johnson.
The adjusted tax levy for 1989 was $344,230. As of January 31, $335,434 or 98% had been
collected. Notices will be mailed out to all delinquent taxpayers. The Commissioners
have scheduled a preliminary 1990 budget hearing for March 6. The Town Hall sustained
damage as a result of a lightning strike.
The Commissioners approved a budget amendment to decrease the Capital reserve fund
and increase the General fund $1000 to cover the cost of necessary repairs.
Commissioner Roderick gave the Planning Board meeting summary. The Board passed
an amendment making minor changes in the wording on the Non-Conforming Usage ordinance.^
Questions were raised concerning the effect of the amendment on the Carolina Water Service
use of its present location. As the proposed ordinance change from the Planning Board
stands, the water company would have to relocate in five years. It was recormiended by
the Board that the issue should be submitted to a public hearing for a decision. Fred
