TUSSOCK MOTH COMING The State Division of Forest Resources has notified the town that a pest control survey has resulted in the prediction of a "medium to high" infestation this year. The two locations where it is expected to be the worst are from Coral Shores to the Ramada and the Ocean front park area. They will probably hatch early this year—in just a few weeks. Residents are discouraged from spraying insecticides since it is felt that these kill the parasites and predatory insects that normally control the moth. In other words, they would make matters worse. The Town will not undertake a spraying program. Appar ently the only thing to do is wait out their short lives. BURNING LEAVES, ETC. Chief Crawford reminds you that a permit is needed in order to burn on your property. Before starting the fire: 1. Call the Town Hall for permission; 2. Have a hose ready; and 3. Be sure to extinguish the fire completely when through. No smoldering. If the Town Hall is closed call 728-3772 and leave word for the PKS Police to call you. As with most things, use your common sense. Don't burn in strong winds. Keep the fire small and keep it away from buildings and other inflammable things. FROM THE CAPTAIN We need fire fighters! We are looking for good people to join the fire department. Call Bob Gallo ar 247-4865 if you can help. Do you have any extra wooden coat hangers? We need them! Bring your extras to the fire station. Help us keep our equipment in good condition. M.C.K. PINE KNOLL SHORES RESCUE SQUAD The E.M.T.'s of the Pine knoll Shores Rescue Squad have completed the necessary training to become certified to administer ephrinefrine injections for the treatment of anaphylactic shock caused by insect stings. Anaphylactic shock is a true life-threatening emergency. The signs vary widely be cause it is a multi-systemic reaction. The most common signs are burning and itching skin, hives, svrollen lips, face, tongue and throat, blue lips, weak pulse, difficulty breathing, fainting and finally coma. Our training manual states: "There is no way of knowing if the patient will stabi lize, grow worse slowly or rapidly, or overcome the reaction on his own. Many patients decline rapidly. For some death is a certain outccane unless special treatment is quickly given." We have the treatment. It is simple and very effective. The critical element is time. A few minutes may make the difference between a minor incident and tragedy. Do not delay. Call for help as soon as the signs begin. C. ZAMINER CANCER FUND More volunteers are needed in Pine Knoll Shores area for the American Cancer Society Fund Drive during the month of April.
