submitted to the engineering firm of Henry Van Oesen Associates for evaluation before contracts will be awarded. Hanan stated that the 911 Emergency Telephone number is operational and available for use. The sand replenishment project at the Holiday Inn will be completed by the end of the week and the next phase will start at the Ramada Inn location. The Town received 130,000 yards of clean sand in the replenishment pro ject. Hanan also indicated that it appears that the Public Utility staff was unhappy with the Water Company's presentation for a rate increase and he feels confident that the request for the increase will be adjusted downward. The Chamber of Commerce is interested in having the DOT place milepost markers along Highway 58. These markers will help in locating streets, motels and businesses in town. The Board approved a motion to have the Mayor send a letter to the DOT stating opposition to the construction of a third bridge from Morehead City to Pine Knoll Shores. The Town's legal counsel rejected the request of the Pine Knoll Association for a written certification that the drainage swale plan would not result in any discharge of silt or sedimentation into the canal. This decision was based upon the fact that the obtained permit from the North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission [CRC] speci fically is conditioned upon adequate sedimentation and erosion control measures being employed and maintained on the system. It was suggested that the Town commit itself to cooperate with the Association and the State in the event of any long term adverse water quality created by the construction of the proposed drainage system. PLANNING BOARD The Planning Board met Wednesday, March 28th. The Board decided to wait for a formal request from Bogue Banks Country Club that the club be exempt from the zoning ordinance requirement that a landscape permit be applied for before landscaping or cutting trees. The Board will recommend to the Board of Commissioners that they establish a schedule of fees for requests for zoning changes, appeals to the Board of Adjustment and sub division applications. AMENDMENT TO THE PINE KNOLL SHORES MUNICIPAL CODE The Board of Commissioners of the Town of Pine Knoll Shores has determined that it is in the best interest of the citizens of Pine Knoll Shores to require discontinu ance of certain nonconforming uses, in order to protect property values and the peace and tranquility of the citizenry; and The Town of Pine Knoll Shores has determined it would be inequitable to require immediate termination of such uses, and further does not desire to require destruction of structures; and The Town of Pine Knoll Shores has determined that, for uses that must be discontinued a period of five [5] years is a reasonable period of time to allow property owners to make adequate plans for the removal of such nonconforming uses; It is therefore moved, that the Pine Knoll Shores Municipal Code is hereby amended. COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION Once again Mother Nature is providing a spectacular show for us. The dogwoods and azaleas seem to be especially beautiful this year. Everywhere you look is awesome— especially Town Hall. What a display!!!!! Needless-to-say, this splurge of beauty didn't just happen. Lots of work and dollars went into making us look forward to azalea time. Just one more example of the pride we feel, as residents of Pine Knoll Shores.
