COMMISSIONERS MEET
The May meeting of the Commissioners was held on May 8th at its usual time in the
Town Hall. It was Primary voting day but that was held in the lobby. However, before
the meeting was over the Commissioners had voted that when Town Board Meeting falls on
Election Day in the future, the Board meeting will be changed to the Monday before the
2nd Tuesday.
All Commissioners were present and gave their reports.
Commissioner Blanchar(^ of Streets and Public Property reported that a retaining wall
was being built near the entrance to the Town Hall from Pine Knoll Boulevard. The Wayne
^^leveland Memorial fountain in front of the Town Hall, which has ceased to function, can-
^Piot be repaired and a new one has been ordered. Town right-of-way mowing has begun.
Police Commissioner Gibson reported that Officer Macklin is receiving training for
Death Investigation. Police answered 150 calls. One major felony arrest, [a woman
accused of shoplifting], was recorded.
Rescue, Fire and Civil Preparedness Comnissioner Hasulak told us there were two fire
calls and 9 rescue calls. He asked the commissioners to approve a service contract for
two defibrillators to be used in the ambulance and in the 4-wheel drive vehicle. This
was done.
Also, Civil Preparedness Chairman Romaine is planning this year's program and has
called an organizational meeting on May 24th, 2 p.m. Hasulak reminded everyone that the
hurricane season starts on June 1st and the town will have a program to give out informa
tion to town residents. One thing to be emphasized is that RE-ENTRY PERMITS WILL BE
REQUIRED FOR PERSONS RETURNING AFTER THE STORM. IF YOU HAVE ONE, GET IT UPDATED AT THE
TOWN HALL 1^. NEW ONES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO NEED THEM. If you wait until the
storm hits the office may be closed and you'll be out of luck.
The Board approved the Rescue Squad election of Chuck Zaminer as Chief and Teddy
Wimberley, Assistant Chief.
