SPRING IS HERE Yes, Spring is here at last! Winter wasn't too bad once we got over the blizzard but the spring months were not so good. It really is spring and here at Shore Line we know it. How? Well, every year about this time Shore Line gets request to remind every body that there are certain things to be careful about. Here goes. NO WAKE. It must be great to be out in your boat again but don't let your exuber ance carry you—or the shores of our waterways—away! Some of you who are new to boating in Pine Knoll Shores do not seem to realize how much wake, not only in the canals but also in the Sound near the canal entrances, is being created by your boat. Please take it slowly and leave no wake behind! NO GRASS CLIPPINGS OR OTHER DEBRIS IN THE WATERWAYS! It is getting increasingly difficult to keep the waterways free of pollution. Please be extra careful about allowing debris to fall into the canals. HELP KEEP OUR PARKS CLEAN. If you walk your dog in the park, clean up any droppings. If you are out for a walk, take a bag with you to pick up any cans, styrofoam cups etc. that are found along the way—especially on the beach. It's surprising how much can be done when everybody does a little. Save your papers, bottles and cans for the recycling bins behind the Town Hall. M.C.K. OUR NEW NEIGHBORS At 208 McGinnis Drive, Maggie Duris has found happiness among new friends and she has so many things to do that she is busy from dawn till dusk. Maggie's about as far from her original home as anybody in Pine Knoll Shores; she was born in Czechoslovakia. There are tales to be told about her walk from there to Vienna during W.W. II. Yes, walk. When things got tense where she and her mother and sister were waiting out the war, they decided to get away - they were German speaking and they were not wanted, so they simply left everything behind and walked. Maggie's father and brother were off in battle, so the women were on their own. It took them a week to get to Vienna, and, as one can imagine, it was not a pleasant journey. Maggie met in Vienna the man who was to become her husband. He was an American soldier. They were married and had two of their sons in Vienna, then later moved to
