Page -2- Roderick outlined the proposed changes to the sign ordinance recommended by the Planning Board and announced that there would be a public hearing concerning them on August 14th at 2 p.m. Copies of these proposed changes will be available in the Town Clerk's office for your perusal. Under new business, Mayor Hanan announced that the 911 system which is presently in effect partially, will reguire, in its enhanced version, that each telephone have a geographical location. This will require all buildings in the town be identified by street number and this number must be visible from the street. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH PROPERTY OWNER TO SEE THAT HIS/HER PROPERTY IS CLEARLY MARKED. There will be an ordinance written to cover that. The mayor was given authority to commence negotiations with White Construction Co. for the drainage project. It is believed that it should not be started until about October 15th. This was approved. There are four openings on the Planning Board and five openings on the Community Appearance commission coming vacant in September. Anyone who is interested in serving on either of these important boards is asked to notify the Commissioners as soon as possi ble in order to be considered for appointment. The Public Hearing on Carteret County Waste Water disposal plans has been changed to July 24th at the Library in Beaufort. Watch the News-Times for the starting time. The Coastal Resources Commission will be holding a two day hearing on designating sections of the coastal waters as Areas of Environmental Concern. Full information on time and place can be obtained by calling the Marine Fisheries Office. Dr. Charles Peterson asked to address the Board about his concern with the water pollution problem in Pine Knoll Shores. Whereas he does not agree with actions previously taken he, as a member of the Environmental Management Commission and a resident of Pine Knoll Shores, offered his services as consultant in all matters of this kind. The meeting was adjourned to executive session. TRASH PICK-UP When are you supposed to put the trash out? What time do they come to pick it up? Recently Waste Industries changed the route they have been following in Pine Knoll Shores for years, just years! Those of us who were used to pick-^up later in the day did not have the trash out when the truck came by! Some people, frantic to get rid of it, picked it up and went driving around to find the truck! The phones at the Town Hall were ringing off the hook. O.K. It was traumatic but' it was not illegal! That's why it was published in the newspaper that the.trash must be on the right-of-way by 7 a.m. This is a part of our contract with them. No sooner than that appeared and everybody hastened to get the trash out in time, they reverted to their old schedule! The fact that the Town was not notified of any of this is unfortunate but it is not a violation of the contract. In fact they even came back for some when a complaint was registered. They just didn't realize that it would make so much difference. The Ordinance [13-4.3] states that containers must be put on the right-of-way not more than 12 hours before and must be taken in not more than 12 hours after pick-up. So, if you want to make sure your trash is picked up, get it out there before 7 a.m. You have lots of leeway. And so do they! M.C.K.
