STEPHANIE GGETZINER 240-1200 BOGUE BANKS LIBRARY The Bogue Banks Public’Library has had a busy first summer in its new location. For the months of June, July and August, there were 4,548 visitors, 334 new patrons, and a circulation total of 6,957 books, periodicals, and records/tapes. We used volunteers on a regular basis this summer more than ever before and we want to say a very big "THANK YOU" to them, and to all others who helped in any way. Our new Baker S Taylor books [best sellers from a rental system] have begun to arrive. Among them are Bourne Ultimatum by Ludlum, Burden of Proof, by Turow, Dragon by Cussler, September by Pilcher, Golden Orange by Wambaugh, Inconvenient Woman by Dunne, The Whirling Dervish and Incident at Badamya, both by Dorothy Gilman. There are others--20 in all. Among those that have just been ordered and should be arriving about the 22nd of September are Belva Plain's Harvest, Sidney Sheldon’s Memories of Midnight,Len Deighton’s Spy Sinker, Robert Ludlum’s The Scarlatti Inheritance Dick Francis’ Nerve and Dead Cert. and Barbara Taylor Bradford’s The Women In His Life. There are also gift books being put on the shelves daily. Our recent donation was «de by Gus and Dorothy Panagakos, parents of Sandra Jordan who co-authored IkirgThe Wetlands; A Hiker’s Guide to Common Plants and Animals of Marsh es., Bogs and Swamps. It is a very readable and beautifully illustrated book. There have been requests for magazines that the library system is unable to supply at this time. These irtlude "Money", "Forbes", and "Changing Times." If there is a donor who would like to make a gift of a subscription to any these magazines, please see me for details. Storytime for the children is held year round on Wednesdays at 10:30a.m. JOYCE KNIGHT NORTH CAROLINA AQUARIUM AT PINE KNOLL SHORES - FALL ADVENTURES Fall is a wonderful time of the year along the coast. Coast watchers know these cool, clear days offer the best opportunities for enjoying wild life. Overhead the skies begin to fill with migrating waterfowl, and the waters can actually churn as schools of blues, mullet, and other fish respond to the dropping temperatures. The harvesting of clams, scallops, and oysters begins, and even the beachcombing is more productive as most of the seasonal visitors have departed. An excellent way to experience these wonders and learn more about their secrets is to take part in Aquarium field trips this fall. Workshops on clamming, crabbing, and even flounder gigging will not only show you how it’s done, but give you a setting and opportunity to try out your new skills. Aquarium excursions will be exploring maritime forests, rock jetties, ^M|lt marshes, dune communities and beaches. Bird watchers will enjoy a trip renowned Lake Mattamuskeet where waterfowl of all shapes and sizes are beginning to concentrate. Boat trips to Cape Lookout and Portsmouth Island offer a glimpse into the cultural as well as natural history of the Outer Banks.
