HAPPY NEW YEAR
At this time of year we like to thank all those who helped to produce
the ShoreLine during 1990. Bob Ruggiero agreed to become co-editor in
March so that now the duty of editing this newsletter is split in half.
The plan is to alternate responsibility monthly but sometimes circumstances
require a change in that schedule. Therefore, it is suggested that if you
have contributions for the ShoreLine you take them to the Town Hall where
they will be placed in the ShoreLine box. The deadline each month is the
2nd Tuesday -- the day the Commissioners meet.
Lola Council is still editor of the "Our New Neighbors" feature and
her writers are: Mary Doll, Yola Hanan, Jackie Davidian, Lib Johnson and
Margaret Mercer. This year Pat NelsDn will join the group. Many thanks to
them for this most favorite feature.
•ShoreLine also wishes to thank the correspondents for the various clubs
and organizations who contribute their important information. They keep
us up to date! Other features which add so much are Stephanie Goetzinger's
"O.W.L.S. Patient of the Month" column, and Chief Crawford's words of wisdom*
Many interesting developments were contained in our pages during 1990.
New People working for the town include Betty Carr, in the office, Charles
Romine in charge of Civil preparedness, Richard Schultz on the Planning Board,
Paul Heim, Dick Ehrhardt, Pat Flinn, Ron Maxwell and Bob Winslow on the
Community Appearance Commission, and Jack Green on the Board of Adjustment.
Also during the year Town Commissioners were reported in the ShoreLine
as: accepting the gift of about 5 acres on Pine Knoll Boulevard from the
Roosevelt partnership. Inc. with restrictions as to its development;
acquiring beach access near Holiday Inn and purchasing a 4-wheel drive
vehicle to make it worthwhile; amending the zoning ordinance to limit the >
use of non-conforming properties, and amending the sign ordinance allowing
certain signs such as "Yard Sale" and "Open House" under controlled condi
tions; and passing an ordinance requiring street numbers to be posted on
