Page -2- COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING The regular business of the Commissioners' meeting was then held. ^ Commissioner Blanchard requested, once again, that residents trim back trees and shrubs which interfere with mowing of the Town rights-of-way. Everyone's cooperation with this request will be appreciated. Commissioner Gallo is awaiting the revenue from the Pine Knoll Shores sales tax portion from the State to complete the fiscal year 1990-91 budget. Expenditures for July exceeded revenues and created a cash flow problem. Commissioner Gallo then read a memo to Connie Shelton authorizing the Tax Collector to issue tax notices to all residents. Notices will be mailed in September. Mr. Gallo commended Corinne Geer on her appointment as Pres ident of the Association of Municipal Clerks. Commissioner Gibson reported that the police responded to 136 calls in July which included 2 larceny and 1 breaking and entering where the criminal was apprehended and which closed the books on 10 other break-ins. Mr. Gibson read 4 letters of commendation to Officer Machlin, Sgt. Hamilton and Chief Crawford on their professionalism and assistance in responding to calls. Commissioner Hasulak was happy to report that there were no fire calls, but 24 rescue calls and 1 transport to Greenville. Commissioner Hasulak once again reminded all residents to have their re-entry cards stamped. In the event of an evacuation, no one will be allowed back into town without a valid re-entry pass. Commissioner Hasulak put out a request for volun teers which are needed on the Fire and Rescue squads. Anyone interested in serving on these vital and necessary squads should contact Dave Hasulak. Mayor Hanan advised that the Mayor and Police Chief of the Isle of Palms, S. C. will discuss the problems they encountered during Hurricane Hugo. All who are interested should attend an open meeting on Wednesday, August 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Morehead City Council chambers. During the Commissioners meeting, Mayor Hanan swore in Betty Carr as Deputy Town Clerk. Commissioner Blanchard made a motion to approve the Wilmot Well drilling contract. Approval was also authorized to spend $1,032 for development of a State mandated Land Use Plan. Mayor Hanan requested an amendment be added to the ordinance concerning animals on the beach. The addition will exclude from the town beaches all non-domesticated animals such as horses, cattle, etc. from beach areas. This response came after the Mayor received a request to allow 14 horses to ride on the beach. Oh well, such is life! The Mayor also sent a letter to the State Wildlife Commission complaining about safety enforcement con cerning persons using jet skis. It seems that 23% of all reported water accidents involved drivers of jet skis. AMENDMENT TO THE PINE KNOLL SHORES MUNICIPAL CODE WHEREAS, animals roaming on the beach strand within Pine Knoll Shores can create municipal problems, including waste both unsightly and threaten ing to human health, and may further cause damage to wildlife, including endangered species; THEREFORE, that the Pine Knoll Shores Municipal Code is hereby amended by substituting a new Chapter 5, Section 2, for the current Chapter 5.2 as follows: £
