During these years, Jan and David acquired an international family
though their activities in the Pittsburgh Council for International Visito^
They would find live-in families for the temporary foreign college studen
help them with paper work, doing anything necessary to ease their U.S.
experience. As a result of occasional home dinners with them, and visits
from student's parents whom they brought to meet Jan and David, several
long-time relationships were established. These resulted in ensuing visits
to the Netherlands, Japan and other countries by the Griffiths. This very
summer they are expecting Dutch friends and their children to visit.
As of now, Jan is a newly-elected social chairman of Newcomers' Club,
and is playing a bit of bridge, meanwhile looking forward to deciding what
other activities will tempt her energetic nature.
Thus, ready, waiting, looking forward, the Griffi-ths are indeed welcome
newcomers to Pine Knoll Shores. Greetings and welcome! Enjoy!

BOAT OUTING
Despite a stiff breeze causing the seas to churn into white caps, the
distant rumble of thunder and black scudding clouds that threatened rain,
the intrepid members of the Pine Knoll Shores Yacht Club set sail for the
disappearing island opposite the Bluffs in the Sound.
Under the direction of Commodore Paul Heim, those that made the perilous
journey tied up in proper rafting fashion, bow line to bow line, spring lines
taut and when completed, the Commodore ordered rations of food and grog be
broken out for all hands. Even though no one ventured to shore, a good time
was had by one and all. The Commodore even opened his boat to a close in
spection and all who came aboard marvelled at Paul's shipshape cabin and
meticulously vacuumed carpeting.
A few of the sailors who would have made the trip were plagued by motor
problems. The Dick Guilfoyle boat had to be towed back to base by Ralph
Jordan after an ominous clank stopped his progress dead in the water. Oh
well, there will be a next time!
There has been a change in the date of the next planned picnic to con
form to the low tide schedule. Nancy Marshall informs us that the new dat^^
is Tuesday, August 27 at 3:00 p.m. See all you sailors there!
