There’s a married Physician's Assistant son in Louisville, married to a nurse, a married daughter with 2 children in Eugene, Oregon, and another daughter is a professional free lance make-up artist, working in TV. A dancer, she attended the North Carolina School of the Arts, but gradually made her way into backstage work after going to a school in Los Angeles. Note: the Mayses have a daughter in Atlanta and so do the Walshes; somehow, they ought to get together and see that the girls meet, huh, especially as both daughters are sort of in show business?!] And that's what these little articles are all about putting new PKS'ers in touch with others. MARY DOLL OWLS’ PATIENT UPDATE: NORTHERN GANNETS In November, we told you about the "unknown disease” that's killing hundreds of our waterbirds, and about how we 'had finally gotten U.S.Fish and Wildlife and the N. C. Wildlife Resources Commission involved. About 50 bodies were shipped to wildlife disease labs in Wisconsin and Georgia. We’re beginning to get some reports back with test results. They have determined that almost all of the gannets had salmonella. Rather than solving the problem, this fact creates another mystery: how does a bird who lives 50 miles out in the ocean contract salmonella?? The organism is only found near land, and besides, it shouldn’t be enough to cause massive internal hemmorhaging. There are many questions left to be answered, and many tests still being done. We'll keep you posted. Know how you're always left with 2 or 3 Christmas cards out of a box? Well, we need them for a fund raiser. Please bring your leftover cards [with envelopes] either to the shelter or to the library. THANKS!
